SOUTHERN SAWG CONFERENCE IN
LOUISVILLE, KY

The Practical Tools and Solutions for Sustaining Family Farms Conference at Galt House in Louisville, Kentucky, January 16-19, 2008.
Southern Sustainable Agriculture Working Group (Southern SAWG) is holding its seventeenth annual conference in Louisville, Ky., January 16-19, 2008 in the beautiful downtown Galt House Hotel and Suites. Joel Salatin is this year’s keynote speaker during the Taste of Kentucky Dinner.
The Alabama A & M Small Farms Research Center is offering scholarships which include: transportation to and from Huntsville , hotel accommodations, coverage of all fees associated with the Conference, and discount coupons towards costs of meals. To apply contact E’licia Chaverest at 256-372-4970. The deadline to apply for this scholarship is December 15. This is an exciting opportunity with little or no costs to those holding a sincere interest in Sustainable Agriculture.
The conference attracts over 1,200 farmers and advocates working towards sustainable food systems in the South. The event begins at noon on Wednesday and concludes Saturday afternoon. Activities include: 62 educational sessions (all presenters with practical experience), 5 field trips (visit local sites that use sustainable production practices), 8 intensive short courses (one day courses offering in-depth information for small-scale producers), 6 hands-on mini courses (half-day courses offering hands-on training). Plus, visit the exhibit hall and meet vendors whose products and services provide support to producers.
The conference sessions will cover sustainable production for horticulture and livestock producers, direct marketing strategies, business management, farm policy issues, and community food systems. The thing that sets the Southern SAWG Conference apart from others is it’s focus on PRACTICAL information. This is obtained though sessions led by presenters with real experience and through the tremendous networking that is possible when 1,200 of the South’s most innovative practitioners in sustainable agriculture are together at this event.
Complete conference information is available at http://www.ssawg.org/conference-.html.
